Reflexology
Reflexology
is a complementary therapy which aids healing for the whole person
rather than
dealing with isolated symptoms.
In
our feet and hands we have reflex points which are believed to have
links to
all the major organs and glands and body parts. By using special
pressure
techniques with fingers and thumbs to stimulate the reflex points
blockages may
be detected and released encouraging the
body to work naturally to restore a healthy balance. Many people find
that a
reflexology treatment relaxes their mind and body.
Reflexologists
do
not diagnose, prescribe medicines or claim to cure however it has been
suggested that reflexology may help with:
- Stress related conditions
- Back pain
- Fertility issues
- Hormonal imbalances
- Insomnia
- Headaches
- Digestive disorders
I
have completed a specialist course in Maternity Reflexology run by
Susanne
Enzer which covers all aspects from pre- conception to post natal.
Reflexology for pre conception
When
a couple are planning to have a baby reflexology may help them to
prepare
themselves physically, emotionally and spiritually for the exciting and
sometimes challenging times ahead.
Reflexology
is a natural
treatment which may help to
balance any disorders in the body prior
to trying to start a family.
Reflexology for sub fertility and assisted conception
Sub
fertility can occur in both men and women. Despite being fertile a
couple find
that they cannot conceive. Stress, life style, and physical health may
contribute to sub fertility. For many couples there seems to be no
reason. This
can put emotional strains on both partners.
As
reflexology may help to balance body, mind and spirit a couple may be
in the
best possible state of emotional and physical health for conception to
occur.
When
assisted conception is taking place the balancing and calming qualities
that
reflexology may produce may compliment the medical procedures. For this
reason
some fertility clinics employ reflexologists.
N.B. When
assisted conception
is planned medical permission is needed for reflexology treatments to
take
place.
Treatments
for preconception and sub fertility may have greater benefit when both
partners
are treated.
Reflexology during pregnancy
The
influence of hormones
during pregnancy and the developing life within her create a time of
total
transition for the mother. As she
undergoes huge physical changes reflexology may assist in helping to
maintain
the mother's health by relieving minor ailments and physical
discomforts of
pregnancy such as nausea, back ache, swollen ankles and fingers and
insomnia.
If
the pregnancy goes beyond the due date a
reflexology
treatment may naturally induce labour. This should only be done with
the
permission of medical staff.
A record of
treatments will
be provided that can be shared with the midwife at antenatal
appointments.
