Baby and Toddler Reflexology

Baby Reflex is a gentle but effective method of reflexology that parents can be trained to give to their own babies and young children from one month old. It is a natural therapy that provides parents with soothing remedies at their fingertips.

It can be done anywhere in an emergency as clothing does not have to be removed.  Baby Reflex techniques have been developed from fifteen years of research into the best practice of using reflexology with young children.

As well as improving the general well being of the baby and young child and strengthening the loving bond with their parents baby reflex also helps to:

  •   Calm baby
  •   Improve sleep patterns
  •   Boost immune system
  •   Aid digestion
  •   Help with the discomfort of teething pain
  •   Ease colic, wind, reflux, constipation and tummy upsets
  •   Relieve ear congestion

Treatments last no longer than 5 minutes at a time and there should be no more than 3 treatments in 24 hours.

Baby Reflex works alongside conventional medicine and any concerns about a baby's health should always be discussed with a doctor or health visitor.

How can I learn Baby Reflex?

As a qualified baby reflex practitioner Irene teaches parents the techniques individually or in small groups over two or three sessions. During these sessions the parent will experience what the technique feels like by practising on their partner or another member of the group. Parents will be provided with their own set of baby reflex treatment charts to use at home.

Can I do the treatment on friends babies?

Baby reflex is a course designed for parents to use exclusively with their own baby or young child.

Toddler Reflex

Once your baby gets to about two and is moving around quickly they possibly won't want to sit still for the routine to be performed on their feet. Toddler reflex transfers the skills onto the hands using nursery rhymes and singing games to make it a fun experience while providing the same benefits. Although this technique can be taught on an individual basis it is much more fun when it is learnt in a small group.

Reflexology for Older Children and Teenagers

Reflexology will have the same overall benefits for children as for adults. It is a pleasurable experience that can be used to promote general well being by stimulating the immune system. The calming effect of a treatment can be extremely helpful if a child is going through a stressful period in their life due to changes in family life, a change in school or while undergoing exams. It can also help to relieve on going conditions such as ear and throat problems; asthma and chest infections; headaches and migraine and digestive problems.

Massage for Children and Young People

Children benefit from the experience of having positive touch during a massage. Stress can be felt by children as much as adults and may present itself through physical symptoms such as muscle pain, headaches, migraine, tummy upsets as well as behaviour difficulties.

Some children with specific needs such as cerebral palsy, autism or Aspergers syndrome benefit from a short massage routine and parents can be shown simple strokes to use between treatments.

Massage for children and young people will be adapted to meet their needs.

The length of a session will depend on the age of the child or young person.

Massage and Reflexology for children and young people under 16 can only be carried out with parents consent and a parent must be present while the treatment is taking place.

Massage In Schools

As a qualified Massage In Schools Programme instructor Irene can visit schools teaching children a simple routine which promotes positive touch for them use on their peers in the classroom. This routine is taught over six weeks and is done while children are fully clothed and seated on a chair.

The programme when carried out on a regular basis as recommended has been shown to improve childrens' self esteem and behaviour in the classroom.
