Aromatherapy Massage
This
is a lighter treatment than holistic massage and therefore may be more
relaxing. Essential oils extracted from flowers, herbs, trees and roots
are
applied to the body mixed in to a carrier oil. The essential oils all
have
different healing properties and following your consultation I will
select a
combination of oils which are chosen for their individual therapeutic
effects.
Aromatherapy Massage
An
aromatherapy massage
combines the healing power of touch with the therapeutic properties of
essential oils to aid the
prevention and treatment of a variety of conditions. Essential oils
which are
extracted from flowers, herbs, trees and roots are diluted in a carrier
oils
such as grapeseed or sweet almond to produce a blend individually
prepared for
each client.
How will you select the essential oils for me?
Following the initial consultation I will identify the main
conditions that have brought you for a treatment. This information will
then be used to select 2 or 3 oils that will provide a good combination
for treating your condition. I do not use pre-prepared blends.
How do the oils work in an aromatherapy massage?
The oils are absorbed through the skin using slow firm
strokes. As the oils penetrate the skin the aroma stimulates the
olfactory system the part of your brain linked to smell. This
transfers a signal to the brains limbic system which controls
emotions
and stores and retrieves memories. This in turn triggers chemicals to
be released.
What conditions does aromatherapy treat?
The most
notable affect of
an aromatherapy massage is that it will be deeply relaxing
Conditions
which may respond well to aromatherapy are:
- hormonal imbalances
- digestive disorders
- skin disorders
- sleep disorders
Aromatherapy
massage may also encourage the immune
system to work more efficiently.
Conditions
such as
backache,
headaches and irritable bowel syndrome may
be linked to stress which is why they may
respond readily to regular aromatherapy massage.
Can all oils be used for everybody?
Some oils have contraindications for conditions such as
epilepsy, high and low blood pressure and when clients are using
homeopathic medicines. This is why a detailed consultation is important
before using any aromatherapy oils.
